In the early 1960s, the founders of DEME were already contributing to the development of Germany's waterways and ports. In 1962, cutter suction dredger Reina Fabiola, then one of the newest vessels in the fleet, carried out dredging and reclamation works for the expansion of Bremen's port. The project marked an early chapter in a relationship with Germany that would span decades.

During the 1960s, the founders were involved in several major infrastructure projects across the country. They contributed to the canalization of the Moselle River, worked on new docks and access channels on the Weser in Bremen, and participated in the deepening and widening of sections of the Rhine. Together, these projects improved navigation and strengthened connections between Germany's industrial regions and international markets.

The German activities laid the foundations for a long-term presence in the country. From Bremen to the Jade, Weser, and Elbe, the company would continue supporting the development and maintenance of some of Germany's most important waterways, ports, and maritime infrastructure.
